AI Beats Humans at Real Life Sport, Drone Racing, for the 1st Time

The Jinx Of It: Swift AI used deep reinforcement learning technique and won 15 out 25 races against world champions.

 🔑 The Key Takeaways:

  • Swift AI clocked the fastest lap on a course where drones reach speeds of 50mph(80km/h) and endure accelerations up to 5g, which is enough to make many people black out.

  • The Drones must cleanly pass the doted gates within the course to avoid clashes during the race

  • Swift AI used method called Deep Reinforcement Training to find the best commands for the course

  • Analysis showed that Swift was consistently faster a the beginning of the races and pulled tighter turns

  • Swift practiced on the virtual replica of the course prior to the race

“Our result marks the first time that a robot powered by AI has beaten a human champion in a real physical sport designed for and by humans”

-Elia Kaufmann, a researcher who helped to develop Swift

20 AI Tools You Need To Know About

We will be covering tricks and tips for each of these tools in detail in the upcoming newsletters, including video reviews and quick guides on how to get the best.

US Restricts Exports of Nvidia AI Chips to Middle East

The U.S. expanded the restriction of exports of Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) AI chips beyond China to other regions including some countries in the Middle East.

Last year, similar restrictions were announces for the exports to China, but it was clear that the risks were posed by exports to Middle East.

Nvidia did not specify as to which countries in the Middle East will be affected by this. The reason for the ban is assumed to be the same as last year - to address the risk that products may be used for military purposes.

Tesla To Launch a $300 Million Supercomputer

Tesla’s Supercomputer features 10,000 Nvidia H100 compute GPU-s and is one of the most powerful computers in the world. It will allow Tesla to supercharge the learning of Full Self Driving (FSD) tech faster than ever.

However, Nvidia has been struggling to meet the demands for this H100 GPU-s, which led to Tesla investing $1 billion to develop its own supercomputer DOJO, which will use custom designed chips. In addition to accelerating FSD training, Dojo will manage data processing for Tesla.

Gannett To Pause AI Experiments After Botched High School Sports Articles

Gannett newspaper has paused the use of AI Service called LedeAI to write articles, after some of them went viral earlier this month for lacking key details, being too repetitive & just overall sounding like they have not been written by an actual human with a knowledge in sports.

Undoubtedly, AI articles are part of the future, but it is also worth noting that CNET has also paused an experiment using AI to write articles, due to being forced to issue corrections on multiple AI-generated reports.

🦾 Today’s AI Glossary

Reinforcement Learning - is a process where the agent learns to make decisions by interacting with the environment, taking action in the environment, receiving feedback in forms of rewards or penalties, and uses those to adjust its decision making process in order to maximize the rewards.
