DeepMind Unveils Invisible Watermark to Spot AI Images

🧠 The Jinx Of It: AI Generated Images are everywhere, including in this newsletter. It is getting harder and harder to differentiate AI generated imagery from authentic ones.

DeepMind is addressing this, by developing imperceptible watermark known as SynthID Tag for Google Imagen.

 🔑 The Key Takeaways:

  • SynthID will be able to identify the images created by Google’s Imagen Tool Only

  • The color, contrast and size changes will not affect SynthID’s Results

  • However, the tech is not perfect, as intensive manipulations to the image may compromise the results

  • The SynthID Tag will be invisible to human eye

  • There are no watermarking standards between the tech giants, as companies like Amazon and Microsoft say that they watermark AI content as well. Different methods by different companies may add to complexity.

What is DeepMind? DeepMind is a British AI research lab founded in 2010. In 2014, DeepMind was acquired by Google (now a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc.).

What is SynthID? SynthID is the tool that identifies the watermarks on the images created by Google’s Imagen Tool.
